RAF Volunteers invited by Hyderabad City Police for an Anti-Ragging Awareness Campaign
RAFLong Awaited Run Successfully on 22nd August 2010 Ragging Action Force (RAF) initiated in 2009 by the students of St. Mary’s College, Yousufguda grew in strength from a humble 40 to 95 volunteers in 2010. After peer to peer counseling at public places, colleges and classes in 2009, RAF moved one step up in 2010 and decided to reach out to more number of students and youth to create awareness against ragging. The best way was to run together for a stretch of 5 K. If running could eradicate the social evils and if it was that easy, everyone would run. The idea was to convey to the students to be together for a cause and this was a social cause for the benefit of the student community.
St. Marians, the torch bearers of this initiative carried the ‘Mashaal’ lit by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Tirupathi Rao, with pride along the track of the ‘RUN’ thus marking a new beginning and paving the path for their peers to follow. The dawn of 22nd August marked a new beginning at the venue at People’s Plaza, Necklace Road was bustling with excitement and enthusiasm of over 2000 youngsters, some accompanied by their parents willing to support their children and the cause.
Message has been spread, students have been sensitized to understand the traumatic experiences of the ‘Ragged’ and the consequences of the ‘Ragger’, but this is just the beginning to the end of the menace in educational institutions called ‘Ragging’.
