The Alumni Association is still at a nascent stage as it was established in the year 2007.  Even then conscientious efforts are being made to strengthen the association & motivate the students to take active participation in the overall development of the college.

 

1.         In this regard the Department of Biotechnology organized an alumni event on 18/07/08 where a couple of documentaries shot by the alumni of our college, who is presently pursuing his masters in the U.K was presented to our students, where valuable tips about the academics, expenditure, and accommodation & job prospects over there were given.

 

2.         The alumni committee called for a core committee meeting on the 30th august 08 where students from B.Com stream viz, Mr.Prashant Pai, Vinay & Swetha were present.  An interactive session went on for some time between the members & the alumni, where several points like

 

Ø  Training the upcoming batch to attend placements in various companies

 

Ø  Registration of the alumni committee, its rules & regulations, method of  functioning.

 

Ø  Invite the alumni for college fests, guest lecturers, seminars etc.

 

3.         Yet another supporting even from the alumni was from the Department of Mass Communication which was held on 19th June 2009.  Where Mr. Prashanth Bhat, an alumni of St. Mary’s college presently working as a print media journalist for D.C conducted a guest lecture where he briefed the students as to how he started his carrier and how the media industry works.  He also gave various tips as well as suggestions on how to start their carriers as students of media and spoke about internships.  The students were highly motivated listening to the various experiences of one of their seniors who have made it big in Journalism. They also asked him several questions as to how to go about various journalistic activities like interviewing, live news, reporting and editing etc. We are looking forward & anticipating more participation from the alumni in the near future.
