Arun
Arun, a commerce graduate had his baptism in shooting in one of the world's best locales, African jungles. Hailing from a family of rifle shooters, Arun first tried his hand at shooting when he was seven. Although Arun picked up the techniques quite quickly, he entered the competition arena only two years ago and picked up gold in his very first major event. His first place finish in the 3 prone 50 metres event and third place in 22 prone 50 metres at the 2002 State championship showed the depth of his talent.
At the recent state championship, he picked up four gold medals, with a state record to boot in air rifle, (363 out of 400), 50 metres. 22 peep sight event, 50 metres 3 prone and 22 peep sight prone.
From a casual Shikari who used to accompany his legal guardian, Raja Mahendergir Dhanraj Gir, in the Namibian jungles to a renowned and passionate shooter, he has come a long way. Today, at 19 years of age, he is one of the finest sharp shooters with a bright future.
When asked about his preference for air rifle shooting, he said that air rifle is a very challenging sport that provides more competition opportunities since it can held on easily constructed ranges. Also, the equipment is commonly available at affordable cost. An ardent fan of Gagan Narang, his immediate goal is to win a medal at the Nationals to be held at Coimbatore in September, 2007, hit 10 out of 10 times and matches his idol's stature. |
