The Department of Physics had been to “Devnar School for the Blind”,for community service on 1st August 2009. Devnar School for the Blind is located adjacent to Gitanjali School in Begumpet.It was founded by Dr.A.Saibaba Goud. A leading ophthalmologist in 1991.At the time of inception of the school ,there were only 4 students .But within a span of 15 years ,Devnar school is acclaimed as the best institution for the visually challenged in India ,with more than 300 students. Devnar School provides all that is necessary to bring out the best in the children.Their abilities outshine their disability to such an extent that the visitors leave the school captivated by the unconquerable spirit and performance of the students.The school has a well equipped computer lab and screen reading software which gives sound output.The students are trained on different softwares which enables them to read any printed software without any external help.Devnar Science lab has more than 50 models designed by the staff.Tha School also won a silver medal in 93rd National Science Congress .Devnar Printing Press prints all the text books in Braille.Devotional and religious books are also printed and the school got the entry into Limca Book of World records for printing Bhagwat Gitain Braille.Devnar students also play chess and cricket excellently and take part in competitions held at the state and national levels regularly. Devnar students have a clear conception in pursuing and reaching their goals.The students have different dreams of becoming computer engineers, chartered accountants ,M.B.A`s etc. The students of Intermediate I &ii year (mpc &bpc) of St.Marys college contributed generously.With the amount collected, 6 ceiling fans were purchased and donated to Devnar School in the morning assembly.After the assembly St.Marians distributed snacks and chocolates , interacted with the students in different classes .They were also taken around the campus ,computer lab, science lab and the canteen. |
