As part of the community service, the Department of Commerce has visited Don Bosco Navketan Home For Street Children. Don Bosco is an organization working for the upliftment of abandoned children. These children are picked up from railway stations, hospitals etc. and are provided shelter and education. After the basic education, depending on the interest of the students they are sent for further education or are given training on different technical skills like Printing, Tailoring, Wielding, Computer Training etc.
The students were informed about the programme one week before and were asked to contribute in cash or in kind for the same. There was an overwhelming response from the students and they came forward in good number to contribute as well as to render their service. They started collecting information regarding the feasible place to visit. Shashank and Fanindra from B.Com Final year took up the responsibility of approaching the concerned authorities to seek permission to allow them into their premises and to meet their inmates.
It
was decided to give away things useful to the students rather than giving away cash. In this regard Vedika, Rishab, Saran Das, Raunak, and Pranav had taken the responsibility to purchase and make arrangements for the same. Uday Kiran and Vikas Agarwal sponsored lunch. Items like Stationery, Fruit juices, Towels, Music system and Ceiling fans were given away.
