Department of Bio Chemistry
Projects 2010 with Bio World Research Labs

To inculcate the latest knowledge and to develop the spirit of confidence within the students, the department of Biochemistry has encouraged its students to take up projects in association with Bioworld research labs.

To encourage and motivate their classmates a guest lecturer was arranged for the students and by the students.

Two students from B.Sc II year, Pooja Vaikari and Camellia Paul have done a project titled:”Production and Application of Proteases by a Locally Isolated Pseudomonas Spp.”

The young biochemists were able to conclude the following:

The locally isolated Pseudomonas Spp was inoculated in casein containing broth medium and the production was monitored for a period of 7 days.

The work showed that the organism which shows optimal growth after 48 hours is able to produce protein degrading enzyme as evident in plate assay.

One of the remarkable finding is that casein substrate shows enhanced production of enzyme, at alkaline pH of 7.5 indicating the suitability of the proteases for the industry.

This motivated the other students to take up projects and developed interest in the field of science.
