Presentation was given by G. Ravi Kumar, lead visitors service officer.he told us about the research carried out of five nutritional crops; chick pea, pigeon pea, groundnut, pear millet, sorghum. 600 varieties of these plants have been released in the market. Transgenic crops are also produced to improve the yield of the crops and make pest resistant crops. ICRISAT was successful in developing Chick pea, Pigeon pea and cotton crops which an immune to hemicova pest. He also discussed the problems faced due to climatic changes such as global warming and enlightened us about the benefits of using bio fuels and biodiesel. ICRISAT has an improvised irrigation system and uses water shed management and rain water harvesting to conserve water.
Further, Dr. Ravi Kumar also gave the students carrier guidance and encouraged them to pursue research. |
