On August 11, 2011 Department of chemistry conducted a field trip to National Institute of Nutrition (NIN). Attendees included all the students & the teachers of BSc.( Life Sciences).

NIN field trip allowed the students to explore their interest in nutrition by learning more about science and seeing the practical applications of nutrition. Students had the opportunity to explore different horizons in nutrition as well as in the core subject “science”.

At the outset, the Students were given a tour of the institute. The field trip also offered an opportunity for nutritional enrichment with a stop at “Nutritional Museum” which specifically highlights the unique aspects of food & nutrition and also the work undertaken in that institute.

The students were then introduced to Dr. M. Shiva Prakash, Ph.D. and current Assistant Director. He opened up by asking the students what they  thought about the institute & the prime importance of science in this era. Dr. Shiva Prakash narrowed down all of the students, voiced his concerns about the various opportunities in the field of science, and he mostly touted on the achievements in the field. He’s now carrying out his works on anti-obesity & anti-ageing which now-a –days has become a prime factor, he also stressed on the pros and cons of cosmetics. Then he insinuated about the diabetics patients to walk in hygienic and serene places. Finally he said about the five star animal treatments, so as to keep them immune from any diseases and also to conduct the scientific research on them.  He discussed the topics in a very humorous way so as to convey the message to the students as well as not to make them caliber.
Students Evaluations confirmed that it was a really positive experience for improvement & exploring the various demeanor in nutrition and life sciences.

The purpose of conducting student seminars is to improve communication and presentation skills among the student community. Students were interested to take up the topics that are not there in  the course curriculum so that they can gain some insight in advanced scientific topics like Robotic surgery, nanotechnology in medicine. They took part in the event with great zeal and enthusiasm
