Education requires that you learn something outside of your own life & helping those who are less fortunate. In this regard the Department of Commerce at St.Mary’s college went on a community service to “Ashritha”- a home for the orphans & under privileged children on 31st of July, 2010. All students of B.Com stream reported to the college at 8.50 a.m on Saturday & started off to the destination by leaving the college premises by 9.30 a.m. The orphanage is located at Kompally in Hyderabad which is at a distance of 15 kilometres from the college. The inmates of the orphanage are children aged between 4 to 12 years (about 65 numbers).
The students of St.Mary’s college along with the faculty reached Ashritha by 10.00 a.m. All of them had generously come forward for the noble cause. The inmates of the orphanage had assembled in the main room & our students started interacting with them. They entertained them with a few games like passing the parcel, singing and dancing. Similary the inmates also showed keen interest by participating in the programme enthusiastically and shaked their legs and danced happily on the Tollywood numbers.
The students distributed a few things like rice, oil, clothes, chocolates, biscuits, bananas, books, stationery items and even provided lunch to the inmates of the orphanage. Other than this the Department along with the students also gifted them an ONIDA LCD TV and personal kits with daily consumable goods as a part of the programme. The small children were highly pleased & very happy by meeting our students, interacting with them & receiving the small gifts which mean a lot to them. The students were very much moved by the life led by the orphans. The community service programme by the Department of Commerce at St.Mary’s college has led to create awareness among the students & know the injustice lurking in our society. It has made our students more responsible by adding an invaluable layer to education, there by enhancing their mind & spirit, gradually leading them to be the most productive members of the society |
