As a part of the extension activities of the college the department of Commerce invites Lectures frequently by inviting academicians or personalities from the Industry. The purpose of these lectures is to enrich the students with latest information pertaining to the subjects of their study and to develop Industry- Institution interface.
The first Guest lecture for the academic year 2010-2011 was held on 8th July, 2010 for the B.com II YR. students on the topic “Taxation system in India and career opportunities in the field.” The Guest Speaker was Shri. D. Hanumantha Raju, Member ICSI (Institute of Company Secretaries of India) and a faculty at IIPM. Mr. Hanumantha Raju was the president of ICSI for the year 2009. He was awarded the president’s award for Corporate Governance in the year 2009 and has been receiving the Best Faculty award at IIPM From 2004-05 Batch onwards.
The session was highly interesting and engrossing with live and practical examples thus making it a thoroughly enlightening one. Mr. Raju highlighted on the importance of proper Tax planning which can be done with good knowledge of sections and the sub-sections of taxation. He emphasized on the importance of understanding the concept of the subject rather than just preparing it from examination point of view. He quoted interesting anecdotes which made the concepts clear and will surely leave a long lasting impression on the minds of the students. He also enlightened the students about the company secretary course and its importance in the corporate world today. |
