Detailed Description / Report:
As part of the annual academic activity, Department of English conducted a workshop on “ Teaching English : Contemporary Challenges and Reforms” on 3rd September, 2010 from 9:45 AM to 4:00PM. The workshop was conducted exclusively for the teachers of English at the undergraduate level. About fifty lecturers from about thirty colleges in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad participated in the workshop. The workshop began at 10:15 with the welcome address by Dr. T. Joseph Christadoss, the workshop coordinator. This was followed by the address of Mr. Mahender Reddy, Director of the college.
Prof. S. Mohanraj from The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad made the keynote address and spoke about the Current Trends in English Language Teaching and on Communicative Language Teaching.
The resource person for the first session was Dr. Asma Rasheed, Asst. Prof. from The English and Foreign Languages University. She spoke on Communicative English : Trials and Tasks for Teachers Today. This was followed by an activity for the participants and Panel Discussion. The members on the panel were Dr. Asma Rasheed, Mrs. Angela Moorjani ( Kasturba Degree College ) and Mr. T. Ebenezer ( St. Mary’s College ).
The resource person for the post-lunch session was Prof. B. Yadava Raju , Head, Department of English, Nizam College, Osmania University, Hyderabad. Prof Yadava Raju spoke on the activities associated with Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing and on the sub-skills of LSRW. He focused on Material Production and made the participants take part in the activity related to material production.
Mr. B.A. Reddy , Chairman, St. Mary’s Group of Institutions, addressed the gathering as part of the valedictory. Mr. B.A.Reddy and Mrs. Mary Reddy, Secretary SMES gave away the certificates to the participants and Mrs. Olivia Lazarus, Head, Department of English, St.Mary’s College proposed the vote of thanks. |
