As a part of the academic activities, the Department of Commerce, with an aim of enhancing the academic & intellectual capacities of the staff in the commerce Department, an in-house Faculty Development Program was organized on 28th, 29th & 30th of October 2010. The main objective of conducting the FDP was to provide various inputs on process and practice, thereby leading to development of creativity and innovative teaching methodologies. Ms. D Jayalaxmi, the Head of the Department of Commerce initiated this program which was divided into 3 sessions-22nd-ICT mode of teaching, 29th- Computerised Acconting using Excel and 30th Tally Accounting Package. The first session on 22nd Octover, took off with the speaker briefing the facult about using the ICT more of teaching and its significance in the present scenario. The HoD emphasized on the faculty to upgrade themselves with the ICT mode of teaching and be computer savy to make the subject more interesting than the usual monotonous classroom teaching. She explained the method of preparing the presentation and gave some tips for preparing good PPTs with good illustrations and visuals. Later the faculty practised for some time and keeping the steps as an input in preparing a PPT.
The second session was held on 29th October with regard to the topic Computerized Accounting using Excel. The speaker firstly briefed about importance of Excel and the relevance of Computerized Accounting using Excel so as to simplify the process of Accounting. It was a real enriching and informative session where in the faculty practiced with the various aspects of using Excel.
The third session was on 30th of October with regard to the Tally Accounting Package. During the session the speaker specially emphasized on the importance of learning Tally as it has become very essential according to University norms. The participants of the program were very enthusiastic about the session as it was concerned with the subject Accountancy. Later the faculty practised Tally in order to get acquainted with the subject. The session came to an end and the facutly discussed amongst themselves about the various aspects that they had come across during the FDP program.
It was a wonderful and interactive session which has motivated the members to adapt new methods of teaching skills henceforth
