With the advent of November month all the students of St.Mary’s college look forward for their annual intercollegiate fest “PRERNA”. This year too the arrangements started off with a bang early in the beginning of the month. All the Departments geared up with their own events to be conducted as part of “PRERNA”. The Department of Commerce also conducted its annual academic event Commerce Educational Meet (CEM-09) as part of “Prerna-09”. The CAMY members under the guidance of the faculty planned the competitions to be held and decided that the following competitions will be conducted: Volitions (PPT), Big Thought (Case study Analysis) and AD- Zap (Business Quiz). This year again CEM saw a very good turn out in the form of enthusiastic participation from students of different colleges from the twin cities.

Event Details:
Volitions: The topic given was “Slow Down- an opportunity to initiate reforms (with reference to education sector)” and “Back Wash effects of floods in AP on Trade and Commerce”. There were 5 teams competing each other. All the presentations were quite informative. This event was a test for their presentation and communication skills as well as of their confidence levels. Uday Kiran and Rohit Sehgal from St. Mary’s Yousufguda were the winners of the event.
Big Thought: This was a competition on case study analysis wherein the participants had to give a written solution for a case given to them on the spot for the prelims round. The participants were given 20 minutes time to think and give their solution. 16 teams have taken part in the event, of which 6 teams qualified for the final round. In the final round each qualified team was given a different case, for which they had to give an oral presentation of their suggestions to overcome the situation and also had to justify the questions put by the judges based on their presentation. The judges, comprising of an academician and an industrialist, ripped the contestants with questions which was the real test for their business knowledge, crisis management and spontaneity. The winners for the event were – Jumana and Akriti of St. Francis College and the runners were Srinath Patil and Rahul Parmani of Avanti Degree College.
AD Zap: This is a business quiz based on products, brands, companies, slogans, Ads and Business Tycoons. This competition was the most looked forward event by the students. This event saw an enthusiastic participation of 25 teams who had to give a written test for the elimination round. 8 teams were selected for the finals. The Final Round had three sequences: Audio round, Audio – Visual Round and a Rapid Fire Round. In the final round the participants had a nail- biting experience with the questions and the short time duration within which they had to make their guess. The participants need to be smart and abreast with current business related news and the Ad- world to answer the questions. Nevertheless the contestants had a great time and enjoyed a lot.
Vedika Saraf & Siddarth from I B.Com (Adv) who were resourceful as the quiz master and the technical support for the entire quiz were appreciated by one and all who witnessed the event for their great work and the finesse with which they conducted the audio and visual rounds.
The winners for the event were Abdul Hai and Archana Maru of St. mary’s College, Yousufguda and the runners were B. Aparna and Dig Vijay of Aurora Degree College. The event ended on a promising note to come back next year with more enterprising and innovative competitions. |
