The Department of English organized “Elocution Competition” on 16th July 2009 in Theatrix. Students both from Degree and Intermediate took part in the event enthusiastically. There were twenty participants both from Intermediate and Degree.
The Program was inaugurated by an encouraging speech given by Mrs. Olivia Lazarus, Head of the Department of English. In the speech, she enlightened about the origin of “Elocution”. After her encouraging words the program continued with three entertaining performances by the students of both Degree and Intermediate.
The opening performance of the day was a melodious song by Samuel Thapa of BA Mass. Comm. IInd year. That was followed by the second performer, Kaushik Babu from Bcom I D who performed a speech of Vivekananda.
After the second performance, the rule of the competition was announced by the anchor. Wherein, each participant was given maximum of 3 minutes to speak. And then, the judges of the day, Mrs. Madhavi, Inter- Incharge and Mr. Joseph, lecturer Department of English were introduced to the participants and the audience. And then the competition began and the names of the participants were called out one after another.
After the first 10 participants of the competition, a breath of fresh air was brought into by our last performer of the day, Akash from BA MassCom IInd year, who shared his own writings (jokes and poems in Hindi) with the audience.
After the last performer, the competition continued with the last 10 participants. And the Program came to an end with the vote of thanks by Shahrukh of MEC first year.
All the participants and the winners of the competition will be given a participant certificate and prizes during the college fest. The winners of the Elocution Competition are Yasuruddin Khan of Bcom 1st year and Swathi of BA MassCom Ist year. |
