The United Nations declared the year 2009-10 as the 'International Year of Astronomy'. Hence the department of physics observed this day on 31st July, 2009 as a part of their calender of events. Essay writing competition was conducted for the students of all classes both inter and degree. The topic given was 'Myths and Realties of an Eclipse". The Department felt that the topic was apt with the occurence of recent solar eclipse which had created a lot of hype about its ill effects tec. The response from the students was very encouraging. The competition was conducted after the college and many students participated in the same. Students presented the topic with relevant diagrams, the myths about eclipse all over the world. The winners of the Essay Writing Competition were:  Mohd Naseer Agarwal, who bagged the first prize. Gaurika Vikas Agarwal and Mohammed Naseer won the second and third place, respectively. The students of second year intermediate took the responsibility of preparing charts on various topics like - The Solar System, The Moon, The Evolution of a black hole into a star and the The Different stars etc.
