Report on HOUR GLASS- Looking Beyond Technology

 HOUR GLASS- Looking Beyond Technology, an annual event was conducted by Department of Computer Science for undergraduate computer science students on 7th December 2007.

The chief purpose of organizing this event is to bring students of various colleges come together and explore their potential and share their views and talents in the sphere of science and technology. The event gave them ample opportunity to display their capabilities by over coming apprehensions, inhibitions.

With this motto, Hour Glass was organized and about 110 students from various colleges of twin cities actively and enthusiastically took part in the event.

The event began with short Inaugural ceremony. Mr. T.RABBI PUTHIRAN, Principal welcomed the guests and participants. Mr. B.A REDDY, Chairman, ST. MARY’S COLLEGE briefed the gathering about the history and heritage of ST. MARY’S and MR. MAHENDER REDDY, Director,. ST. MARY’S COLLEGE expressed his views about present scenario of IT sector and encouraged them to participate in more such activities.

Later, Mr. PRADEEP RAGHUNATHAN, Business Development Manager,TCS Ltd, the Guest of Honour , took over with his interactive session on various career opportunities in the field of Information and Technology. Students interacted with Mr. PRADEEP and clarified their doubts related to placements and advance technology. Then the program was followed by PowerPoint and Web based presentations by student participants. About 14 teams presented various features of technology on the PowerPoint and Web based presentation. This event was judged by Mr. PRADEEP After declaring winners, Mr. PRADEEP shared his views on the presentations and offered suggestions to the participants and said that “the relevance of the technology and its application is the most important factor in any sector and to be successful in IT industry the most important things are good communication skills and team work”.

The Program was later followed by quiz competition which was organized by MS.ANAHITA first year BSC student and the event ended up with interesting Group Discussion on “Mobile Technology Boon or Bane” which was moderated and judged by MR.EBENEZER, HOD, English Department, ST. MARY’S COLLEGE.

Finally, HOUR GLASS was concluded by prize distribution by Principal and Director, The First Prize was won by MR.Shouvik and MR Vinod of LOYOLA ACADEMY and second prize was won by Mr.Naveen and Ms.Geetha of ST. MARY’S COLLEGE for Web designing. The First Prize was won by Ms. Neha Prakash and Ms.Shanti of ST. MARY’S COLLEGE and  second prize was won by Mr.Naveen and Ms.Geetha for powerpoint presentation and winners for quiz competition were Mr.Amit Sagar and Mr. Prabhu and runners were Mr.Sarfaraz and Ms.Geetha of ST. MARY’S COLLEGE and winners for Group Discussion Mr.Sarfaraz of ST. MARY’S COLLEGE and Mr.Vinod of LOYOLA ACADEMY won second prize
