Debate Competition - Activity-1

The literary club with the strength of 45 active members or students has come forward with some events for the academic session of 2008-2009. The sole purpose of the club is to cater the needs of the students and also to develop their interest in literature and language. 

Following are the members of the Literary Club:

 As the first activity of the literary club a debate competition was organized for both intermediate and degree students in theatrix at 2.30 pm on 5th August’08. The competition is also organized to mark the inauguration of the club. The program started with a brief introduction of the literary club by a club member. And Mr. Rabbi Puttinan, the Principal of St Mary’s college has declared the club as “open” in his address to the club members and audience. Principal’s speech was followed by the event as titled “Is Indian constitution too old to follow?”

There were 11 participants forming two distinct groups.6 students speaking for the topic and 5 against the topic. There were two rounds in the competition. The first round was the “speech round” where each of the participants had 3 mins to speak on his or her topic. And the second round was the “questioning round” where audience and the participants raised questions and each speaker had 2 mins time to clarify his or her stand. 

The eventful day came to an end with a “vote of thanks” by a club member, thanking all the participants, audience, Principal, speaker of the event Ms Radha vardha and two most respected judges of the event Mr Ebenezer, HOD English department and Ms Madhavi, Inter Incharge. 

There are two winners from degree and intermediate. Prashanth. k from III year BA. Mass com and Yasseruddin from MEC II nd year are declared as winners of the debate competition.
