ORIENTATION AND INAUGRATION-(JULY 6, 2009)
The NSS Unit of St.Mary’s College organized an Orientation Programme. The gathering was addressed by Dr, Anita Reddy.NSS Progamme Officer Kasturba Gandhi College. She explained the vision, Mission and importance of NSS and also motivated the volunteers to contribute in the development and betterment of the society. The Volunteers of Kastuba College interacted with the volunteers and shared their experiences.
WORLD POPULATION DAY (JULY, 10, 2009)
The NSS Unit of St.Mary’s organized an awareness programmed in the College Campus. The NSS Volunteers presented a power point presentation on the alarming growth of population and stressed the need of creating general awareness about population control. They also discussed how a healthy, educated and skilled population can help in the economic development of the society and the country.
COMMUNITY SERVICE (AUGUST, 1, 2009)
NSS Unit of St.Mary’s along with the other students of the College observed Community Service Day and visited various organizations. The Volunteers of NSS visited Freedom Foundation and spend the whole day there. They had lunch with the patients and HIV Positive children and interacted with them. Various competitions and games were conducted and prizes were distributed. It was a wonderful experience. The volunteers decided that they wouldl visit them more often and celebrate the occasions like birthdays and Christmas with the children there.
INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION (AUGUST, 15, 2009)
The NSS Volunteers celebrated the Independence Day, with the students of Yousufguda Government School. They presented a small show explaining the importance of the Day for an Indian. The school children sang some patriotic songs. Sweets were distributed among the children. Some games were conducted for the children and stationery and books were given as the prizes.
SADBHAVANA DIVAS (AUGUST, 20, 2009)
An Elocution Competition was organized on this occasion. A large number of Volunteers and other students of the College participated. They expressed their views and opinion which were quite enlightening and motivating. The Winners of the Competitions were- Ms. K.V.Swetha B.Com-General I Year, Ms. Manasa Rao-BSc. Bio-Tec II Year-II Year and Mr. Mubeen Siddique-BA I Year.
INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY (SEPTEMBER 7, 2009)
The NSS Unit of St.Mary’s observed the Literacy Day. On this occasion a camp was organized in a slum in Yousufguda. The volunteers interacted with the youth and children and explained to them the importance and value of education. The girl volunteers approached the housewives and explained the importance of education to a mother and a woman. The students also taught a few of them to write their names in English and Telugu. Few volunteers came forward and decided to teach English to the children on Sundays and holidays.
INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY-SEPTEMBER, 15.2009
On September 15, the NSS Unit organized a Collage Competition in the College Campus. The volunteers and other students of the College participated and came forward with wonderful ideas expressing the importance of peace in present day scenario and how they can contribute in maintaining peace in society. The Winners were-A. Shiva Nandini B.A Ist; Year-First; Sabrhat Afreen B.Com (Voc.) – Second; Kailash Juthar B.Com (General) –Third.
NSS DAY SEPTEMBER 24, 2009
The NSS, Programme Officer Dr, Radha Varada and the volunteers joined the NSS DAY celebration organized by the Osmania University Unit. It was a wonderful experience. The volunteers from different colleges meet and interacted with each other and shared their experiences. The Programme Coordinator Dr K. Ramakrishna addressed the gathering. Vice Chancellor Prof. Tirupati Rao was the Chief Guest. He motivated the gathered Volunteers to work for the development and betterment of the society.
COMMUNAL HARMONY DAY, OCTOBER 2, 2009
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the NSS Unit organized a camp in the College Campus and invited the NSS Volunteers of various colleges and had a group discussion on the various ways how to create awareness regarding the importance of communal harmony. They decided to visit the near by Government School and conduct an essay competition for the school children. On 3rd October we conducted the competition in Yousufguda Government School for the children from 5th to 10th Class and gave them books on national integration and communal harmony as a token of appreciation
BLOOD DONATION CAMP OCTOBER, 10, 2009
The NSS Unit of St. Mary’s organized a Blood Donation Camp in collaboration with Lion’s Club on 10, October 2009. The volunteers, other students and Staff Members actively participated and donated around 110 units to NTR Virtual Blood Bank.
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MENTAL HEALTH OCTOBER, 10, 2009
The NSS Unit along with the Department of Psychology observed the International Day of Mental Health on October 10.by conducting an Awareness and Education Program on Stress Management. Awareness was created regarding the increasing stress among the youth in studies and personal matters, tips were given to handle them and face the challenges in better and effective way.
SPECIAL WINTER CAMP –NOVEMBER 11, 2009 TO 17, 2009
DAY-I- INAUGRATION AND PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATION SKILL CAMP:
The NSS Volunteers along with the Principal Dr. Rabbi Puthiran and Program Officer Dr. Radha Varada reached the village CHANDAPUR around 9a.m. The village Sarpanch Mrs. Yallama inaugurated our special camp in the Government School Campus. The volunteers gathered the village youths interacted with the school children and youths, taught them the basics of communication and tips to develop their personality. We spent the day their had lunch and a small entertainment programme. The youths were very much delighted by the interaction and co-operated with us.
DAY-II-CAREER GIUDANCE PROGRAMME
Our NSS Volunteers gathered the college going and other youths of the village. They interacted with them what they are doing, how are they planning to do the various courses, what are the institution they know about etc. They gave them the information about the various vocational courses and computer related courses which can help them in getting jobs. Our Faculty member Mr. K.T. Srinivas informed them about the Government jobs openings and their entrance examination dates and how to apply and also answered their queries. The youths were very satisfied and happy they thanked us for the information’s delivered to them.
DAY III- HEALTHY YOUTH-HEALTH AWARENESS PROGRAMM
As a part of our Healthy Youth Programme the NSS Volunteers presented a skit creating awareness against drinking and smoking and its effect on a person, his family and society. They interacted with the youth enquired about their health issues. The study reveled that 70% of the youth consume local alcohol and smoke. The volunteers shared their experiences and tried convincing that the health is wealth and we should take care of it. The healthy youth can make a healthy society and healthy nation.
DAY IV GOVERNMENT POLICY AWARENESS CAMP
Mr. K.T Srinivas, one of the faculty members conducted this camp along with the volunteers. He addressed the gathered youth and school children informed them about the various State Government programmes and how they can avail them. He answered the queries and clarified their doubts. The Volunteers also addressed them and explained about the right to education and right to information. The youths were quite satisfied and they said that it was very enlightening.
DAY V MEDICAL CHECK –UP CAMP
We organized a medical health check-up camp for the School children, youths and villagers. Dr. Rekha accompanied by sister Emli from Femicare hospital conducted the general check-up and prescribed them the required treatment. We also donated a First –aid –kit and general medicine to the school. Our volunteers interacted with the children and youths and spoke to them about the healthy practices and precautations to be taken. We donated Water- Filters for the children of the school and also informed how important it is to drink safe and purified water.
DAY VI SHRAMDAN
As a part of our shramdan activity our volunteers cleaned the School campus and painted it. They were very happy doing it. The village youths and few children also joined. They also cleaned a part of village and interacted with the villagers. The Village Sarpanch Mrs. Allamma appreciated our efforts and thanked us. She interacted with the Programme officer and the volunteers and explained about the village life and the difficulties they faced.
DAY VII EDUCATIONAL SURVEY AND ECONOMICAL SURVEY
The NSS Volunteers went door to door and interacted with the families. They enquired about their educational status inspired the school drop-outs to join back. The youths shared their problems and explained why they had to leave their studies and are working in the nearby spinning mills to support their family. The volunteers motivated them to continue their studies in distance education.
On last day 17th we all had a small get together. A small entertainment programme was presented by the volunteers. We distributed sweets and snacks and thanked the Sarpanch, school management, children, youth and villagers for their co-operation.
WORLD AIDS DAY----DECEMBER 1, 2009
NSS Volunteers along with the other students of the college observed World Aids Day. They organized a rally, visited the near by slum areas and created awareness regarding this deadly disease and also spoke about the preventive measures. Interacted with the youths individually and created general awareness and answered their queries. In college campus they visited all the classes and created general awareness.
HUMAN RIGHTS DAY. DECEMBER 10,2009
On this occasion we organized a power point presentation explaining it’s historical, significance, its implementations and various organizations involved in protecting human rights. The NSS Volunteers also conducted an awareness programme which was very enlightening and informative
REPUBLIC DAY------JANUARY-26, 2010
The NSS Unit along with the other students and faculty member celebrated i the Republic Day in the near by Government. After flag hosting sweets were distributed among the children. Some games were also conducted and an interaction with the students of class X was initiated. The discussion about the prevailing politcial condition and its effects on the student community was discussed at lenght. They were also motivated to prepare well for the up-coming Board Examination. |
