Prerna 2008-09
A Report by- Co ordinator- 2008-09 by Ms. Jayalaxmi
PRERNA, an Inter Collegiate Literary and Cultural fest is an event which is being conducted and organized by St. Mary’s College annually for a decade now. This event aims at providing a platform to the students to showcase their talents and to ignite and sharpen their latent skills. It helps towards their holistic development and also gives the students a break from their busy schedule of studies, exams, projects, assignments etc.

PRERNA, is a much awaited and looked forward event by the students not only from St. Mary’s but also from other colleges equally. The response from different colleges in the twin cities, every year which grows every year proves this. This year PRERNA-08-09 repeated its success story once again with an overwhelming response from students and sponsors. Apart from over 500 participants from 26 different colleges there was a turn out of about 2500 students as audience and participants for various events held in the college campus.

For an event of such a magnitude, planning starts well in advance. This year as the event was scheduled for 26th and 27th of November, the planning for PRERNA-08 started in the month of October -08 with the Principal delegating the responsibility of conducting the event, to the Cultural Committee. Ms. Jaya Laxmi was made the Chief Coordinator. The other coordinators were Mrs. I.C. Madhavi (Cultural Coordinator), Mrs. Akshara Singh (Stall area Coordinator), Mr.Sandeep (Department events Coordinator), and to be supported by the other members of the cultural Committee - Mrs. Jai Mole Cross, Mr. Dayanand Babu, and Mrs. Deepthi Priya. It was also decided to conduct PRERNA in a never before manner. Instead of just a Literary and Cultural fest it was revamped into an Educational, Literary and Cultural Fest. The other events conducted by the college every year like CEM AND HOUR GLASS were merged with PRERNA and all the other departments also joined together to conduct competitions in  their respective departments.

Sixteen different Committees were set up, assigning responsibilities to each one of the lecture. Students were called to be volunteers and assist in organizing the event. The students volunteered and participated enthusiastically. Four students were selected as Chief Organizers. Mr. Mohan Agarwal ,( B.Com final Year), Mr. Mahider, (B.Sc MsCs), Mr. Nitin (B.Sc B.T), Mr. Irshaan (B.A. Mass.Comm) and many others were selected  as volunteers for different committees.
