A Women’s Development Cell was launched at St. Mary’s College, Yusufguda, Hyderabad today, on 14th September, 2007.

Objective: To create awareness among the girls and the women staff, apart from maintaining congenial working environment for all the women employees and students.
The WDC was inaugurated by Ms. Tejdeep Kaur Menon, IG SPF, was the chief Guest and Dr. Meeta Singh Founder Secretary, Hyderabad Chapter of Indian Menopause Society, was the Guest of Honour. The Chairman of the college Mr. B. Arogaya Reddy, Secretary, Mrs. B. Mary Reddy and Mr. Mahender Reddy, Director of St. Mary’s College were also present for the program.
1. As a part of the awareness program by the WDC a lady lawyer was invited to for a Guest Lecture in the month of November. She enlightened the girls about their legal rights in the society. She also emphasized and explained about the career option in the legal field and the scope of growth etc.
2. Through the WDC a tie up was made by the NAANDI Group, an NGO. Lecturers and students together contributed towards the education of 10 girls from economically backward class through the Nanhi kali project, one of the projects of NAANDI.
3. The first issue of 'Little Women', an annual WDC Journal was released on 26th January, 2008.

4. Activity 1, 25th July, 2008
Physical Beauty is skin deep they say, but its equally important to have a toned skin and a beautiful face. To bring about awareness amongst the girls about the need to learn basic tips of self grooming and understand the importance of health an nutrition, because health is wealth and specially so when its a girl's health, faculty of VLCC institute was invited to give the details about the courses that they have to offer in Self Grooming and Health and Nutrition. Doctor brought to light the different courses in nutrition that VLCC has to offer and the avenues open to make a career of these openings in the field of beauty, dietics and sports and over all to be a well informed woman, who is the backbone of the family.
On request from the students, that the successful speakers should be around there peer group, so that they could relate to the person, Ms. Payal Maskara, a student of Degree 1st year was called upon to share her thoughts and the secrets of her success with her friends. She was able to talk to them at their level and probably made the students understand better as to how to manage time better, in order to succeed.
A beauty expert from the VLCC offered to show live some types of make-ups and called for a model. Ms. Ayeesha came forward and the beautician showed the girls the basic skin cleansing methods followed by the light tone of make up for college or work. Girls and members of the staff watched with equal enthusiasm and had some queries later.
The co-ordinator of WDC, Ms. Anju Prasad, emphasised on the importance of dressing up decently and looking presentable while in the college campus, atleast.
5. Anniversary Celebrated on 12th September, 2008
The Women Development Cell of St. Mary's College, Yousufguda, celebrated its first anniversary on the 14th of September, 2008. This day also marked the release of the Annual Journal Volume II of WDC 'Little Women" which was first released on 26th January 2008. Contributions from students community irrespective of the gender, even though it was a WDC magazine was the highlight.
The Editor of the magazine, "Little Women" 2008 was Ms. Manisha Reddy, BA II Year Mass communication.Ms. Anju Prasad was the co-ordinator and the Chief Editor of 'Little Women' Volume I&II.
Some competitions were also held to mark this day. Lady staff members and girl students participated in this show with equal enthusiasm and made it a Grand Success. Personality contest, 'Beauty with Brains' was also held for the young girls of the college. Ms Mahima Bararia was crowned the Ms. St. Mary's 2008 beauty with brains, with her answer to the question, put by the judges "what would you like to change, if you could go back in time?". Her answer to the question was that she would go back and change the thinking of the people from where it started and man started discriminating between the two genders. Ms. Bhagyashree of Bsc. Biotechnology was given the second prize and Ms. Maria Hasan was awarded the third prize.
In the Fashion show conducted for the lady lecturers of the college, Ms. Akshara Singh was crowned the fashion queen, 2008, Ms. Deepthi Priya was crowned the first runner up followed by Ms. Sunitha Panigrahi as the 2nd runner up.
For the first time certificates were awarded to every participant for their enthusiastic participation and contribution of articles towards the magazine as a token of appreciation and encouragement.
The solo dances of the lady Lecturers was the highlight of the show. Ms. I C Madhavi, Lecturer in Physics, welcomed the guests by her classical dance performance and Ms. Rupa Devi enthralled the students with her 'Niboda Niboda' dance, a treat to the students who see the teachers teaching only. Way to go ladies!!!
The guests invited for the day were Ms. Archana Jain, Ms. Daruwala and Dr. Uma Subraman. Director of the institution. Ms. Mary Reddy, secretary of St. Mary's, lit the lamp and was the guest of honour. Mr. B Mahender Reddy, released the magazine. Principal of the college, Dr. Rabbi Puthiran encouraged the WDC members with his words of wisdom and appreciated the efforts of the members of staff and students alike in bringing the cell to expected standards. Prizes were given away at the end of the program. Certificated of Appreciation were given to every participant and students & members of staff who contributed articles for the magazine.
At the fag end of the year, a lady entrepreneur was invited to give a demonstration of the Direct Network Marketing. The confidence, presentation and communication skills were emphasized on with this presentation. Ms. Lakshmi, one of the dealers of Tupperware also showed and explained the income opportunity for an individual, which can be done at leisure and at ones own time and convenience. The wide range of Tupperware, was displayed and the features demonstrated. At the end of the demo, the products were open for sale. Many of the Lecturers invested in the products.
The Year came to an end at a fruitful note. WDC finally proved to be the Neighbour’s Envy and Member’s Pride. At the end of one and a half year, since inception, the WDC was successful in making it an entity in the college and many people, staff and students, relate to it.
As a token of gratitude and appreciation, the members of WDC 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 with Ms. Anju Prasad as a co ordinator for both the years, presented a DVD player as a memento to the college / management on 08/02/09.
I thank the Principal for having thought of this concept and entrusting this responsibility to me. My profound gratitude to the Management also, who co operated in every possible way to make it a successful body, whether it was contribution to the education of the girl child or backing the cell financially or even with just their very presence when required/invited.
