The International Day for World Population was observed in St. Mary's College Theatrix. Five departments - Departments of Maths, Statistics, Zoology, Bio-Chemistry & Bio-Technology came forward to celebrate this day for awareness of the students.
The Chief Guest, Mr. M.D. Dharma Rao was given a floral welcome by one of the senior students. He presented an impressive power point presentation with the latest updated facts and figures (8th July,08 last updated). He made the presentation very interesting and easily understandable with all the facts and figures for the audience, who enjoyed his instant humour and pun from time to time. They also appreciated his knowledge on this grave and rather a dry subject. He seemed to have driven home the point about the need for the control of population to the younger generations by giving comparitive figures of other counties, which truly was an eye opener.
All the students and staff of the organizing Departments supported yellow colour garments, signifying, fertility, progress, prosperity and auspiciousness.
Poster making competition was conducted for the students of Science Maths and statistics. The students participated with full vigour and enthusiasm and there were poster all over the college screaming the message of the urgent need to control the sharply growing population. Creative power point presentation was given by a student. At the end of the program, the prizes were given out for the best poster.
K Sarat of Bsc. Mscs I year bagged the first prize in the poster making competition.
It was a meaningful day, well spent, for both the students and members of the staff alike.
