The students of BA Mass Comm First year were taken to the premises of HY TV for a field visit. Ms. Tejaswini, a mediaperson at HY TV, briefed them about the basic process of broadcasting. Ms. Tejaswini took the students on a tour of their office and showed them their broadcasting equipment.
The students were taken through the step by step process of how the channel operates and they learnt that the whole process goes through three stages. The news feed comes in through the input head that is conveyed to us by the reporters. The input head scrutinizes the information. These reporters come under the bureau chief who tells them what news to give out. The news selected, moves to the output head where graphics are added, and the video is edited.
During the broadcasting, the panel producers also known as the ‘PCR’ who feed the information in to the teleprompter for the anchor to read, and the video for the people to see at home. For live telecast, especially on field reporting, the outdoor broadcasting van also called the DNGC van is used.
On the whole, the students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and got to know a media channel actually functions.
